1. Acceptance of Terms

By accessing or using the Service in any way — including browsing the site, uploading files, creating an account, or using the API — you confirm that you have read, understood, and agree to these Terms. If you are using the Service on behalf of an organisation, you represent that you have authority to bind that organisation to these Terms.

2. Description of Service

MetaScrub is a free online tool that removes metadata (including EXIF data, GPS coordinates, author names, and other embedded properties) from uploaded files such as photos, PDFs, videos, and Office documents.

Files are processed in memory and automatically deleted from our servers within approximately one hour of upload. We do not store, analyse, sell, or share your file contents. The Service is provided free of charge and requires no payment.

3. Acceptable Use

You may use the Service only for lawful purposes and in accordance with these Terms. You agree not to:

• Upload, transmit, or process any file that contains illegal content, infringes third-party intellectual property rights, or violates any applicable law.
• Attempt to disrupt, overload, or exploit the Service or its infrastructure.
• Use automated tools to scrape, probe, or abuse the Service beyond normal permitted use or the stated API rate limits.
• Impersonate any person or entity, or misrepresent your affiliation with any person or entity.

We reserve the right to suspend or terminate access for any user who violates these rules.

4. Accounts

Optional accounts allow you to generate and manage API keys. When creating an account you must provide an accurate email address. You are responsible for maintaining the confidentiality of your login credentials and for all activity that occurs under your account.

5. API Use

Registered users may generate API keys to access the Service programmatically. API access is subject to these Terms and any rate limits described in the API documentation.

You must keep your API keys confidential. Do not share keys publicly or embed them in client-side code. You are responsible for all requests made using your keys. If a key is compromised, revoke it immediately from your account settings.

6. Intellectual Property

The MetaScrub name, logo, website design, and original content are the intellectual property of MetaScrub. You may not reproduce or distribute them without written permission.

You retain all rights to the files you upload. We claim no ownership over your content and do not use it for any purpose other than performing the requested metadata removal.

7. Disclaimer of Warranties

The Service is provided "as is" and "as available" without warranties of any kind, express or implied, including but not limited to warranties of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, or non-infringement. We do not warrant that the Service will be uninterrupted, error-free, or completely secure.

8. Limitation of Liability

To the fullest extent permitted by applicable law, MetaScrub shall not be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages, including loss of data or profits, arising out of or in connection with your use of the Service, even if we have been advised of the possibility of such damages.

9. Changes to Terms

We may update these Terms from time to time. When we do, we will revise the "Last updated" date at the top of this page. Continued use of the Service after changes are posted constitutes your acceptance of the updated Terms. We encourage you to review this page periodically.
